Going After the Red-light Runners
Collier County is implementing tiny blue lights at traffic signals across 20 major intersections to assist deputies in apprehending drivers who run red lights. The system operates in such a way that the blue lights will illuminate in coordination with the red lights, acting as a signal for nearby deputies when a driver improperly crosses the intersection.
The CCSO was quoted as saying “The installation of these blue lights at intersections should facilitate our efforts as law enforcement officers in enforcing red-light-running violations. The blue lights will enable a single deputy to oversee the intersections, whereas previously it required several deputies to manage one intersection.”
