Forecast Location
The forecast location defaults to IslandWalk (or to whatever you last selected), and a forecast graph is displayed for that location. To change the default location, click . This will remove the graph and open a selection. If you click in the selection list, a set of semi–popular choices will be shown. If you like one of these, click it, then click to display a graph for that location.
Custom Locations
You might be interested in someplace else, such as “Cardiff, Wales” – or “Yosemite National Park”. the existing graph, then type the custom location of interest, then click . Other ways to specify a location may be tried, such as “Miami, FL 33111” for a specific ZIP code in Miami. Entering just a number is not permitted, and may default back to IslandWalk. Postal codes outside the US are not reliable. If your entry cannot be located, no graph will be shown (“Mount Rushmore” can be found; “Golden Gate Bridge, CA” can be found; “Golden Gate Bridge” cannot) – click to try again.
Although not recommended, you can also specify a location using a name or nickname, followed by latitude and longitude data. Latitude is positive Noprth of the equator, negative South of it. Longitude is positive East of the prime meridian, and negative West or it. Location can be specified as either two comma-separated latitude/longitude numbers, or eight comma-separated degree/minute/second/N-S latitude/degree/minute/second/E-W longitude numbers. The location should be enclosed in quotes to ensure that the program does not become confused by commas in the location. For example:
- "Excellence, Riviera Maya",20.7678,-86.95 is a resort on the Mexican Caribbean
- "Grand Luxxe Jungle",20,46,7.65,N,86,56,59.8,W is a nearby resort
If your choice was not in the original set offered, but returned valid data, it will be selected for display and added to your choices for future re–use. When a graph is displayed from one of your custom locations, there will be a displayed adjacent to the . Clicking this will remove your custom location from your list. If you do not use the site for a few weeks, your custom locations and preferred location will be forgotten.
The Graph
Graphs are shown for temperature and for probability of rain. When defined, the temperature graph shows heat index values in red and wind chill values in blue. The units of measure are displayed in a button which can be toggled between “Show Metric” and “Show Imperial (US)”. Your most recent choice will be remembered for a while, so that returning to the page will keep the selection. The time scale is hourly, for 168 hours (7 days). Vertical lines are shown every 4 hours. Noon is labeled as 12:00, and midnight is labeled with the day and month.

will shift the forecast forward 4 days, to a maximum of an additional 8 days. Naturally, the reliability drops as you move out in time. -

will shift the forecast back 4 days.
Additional Forecast Details
Clicking in either graph will display a more detailed forecast for the specific hour corresponding to your click. The details include temperature, heat index (if any), wind chill (if any), humidity, wind direction and speed, wind gusts (if any), and chance of rain. Clicking the graph vertical scale(s) will delete the display of details.
In Imperial (US) units, temperatures are rounded to the nearest 1° F and wind speeds are rounded to the nearest 1 mph. In Metric units, temperatures are rounded to the nearest 0.5° C, and wind speeds are rounded to the nearest 0.5 m/s. Humidity and Chance of Rain percentages are rounded to the nearest integer.
In rare circumstances, such as a Floridian winter, it is possible for heat index values and wind chill values to occur in the same plot, with a difference of more than 55° F or 37.5° C. In these rare circumstances, heat values may plot above the top of the chart, and/or wind chill values may drop below the bottom of the graph. (It’s not worth fixing yet.)
