2020 marked just the second time in history that Greek-letter names were used for storms. It also marked the first time in history that Greek-letter names got more attention than the storms themselves. They will no longer be used. The list of names for 2021 now includes a supplemental list if the initial list runs out. Highlighted names have been used.
Editorial note: It appears that the insurance companies have lobbied NOAA to name everything down to and including a “sub-tropical depression” to limit claims from a named storm. We appear to be having more names with less significance. This page now refers to “storms” instead of “hurricanes”. Oh, well ‑ the global warming enthusiasts will appreciate the ammunition.
